Dr. Liangfang Zhang
Department of Nanoengineering

Moores Cancer Center

Prof. Liangfang Zhang received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign (UIUC) in 2006 under the supervision of Prof. Steve Granick. He was a postdoctoral associate in the laboratory of Prof. Robert Langer at MIT during 2006-2008. He holds B.E. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University in China. He joined the Department of Nanoengineering at UC San Diego as Assistant Professor in July 2008 and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in March 2012 and to Professor in July 2014.

Our Research

Our research aims to create cutting-edge biomimetic nanotechnologies and exploit them to study and solve complex biological problems that are associated with human diseases. One major research goal is to overcome the various therapeutic barriers in the treatment of cancer and antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection. We also seek to understand the fundamental sciences at the interface of nanomedicine and biology. Overall, our research program covers a broad scope of multidisciplinary areas including chemical & biomolecular engineering, materials science, chemistry, nanotechnology, biotechnology and medicine.
